George W Bush’s Visit:

A Provocation Against All Peace-Loving People

WDIE joins with the multitude of other organisations and communities in condemning the state visit to Britain of US President George W Bush.  The visit – and even more so the invitation by the British state – is an affront and a provocation to all democratic and peace-loving people.

Tony Blair and the Head of State are feting George Bush at a time when the USA and Britain are fresh from their war of aggression against the sovereign people of Iraq, a war in contravention of the UN Charter and international law.  The devastated Iraqi people now suffer illegal military occupation and the plunder of their resources, also in contravention of international law, by US and now British corporations.  This follows similar criminal aggression against the people of Afghanistan.   It follows a decade of sanctions which killed over half a million Iraqi children.  It follows President George Bush Senior’s backing in the 1980s of the very same Saddam Hussein his son now demonises and the supply of weapons of mass destruction for use in the war against Iran.

Meanwhile the governments of the USA and Britain, revealing their cynicism and double-standards, support the war criminal Ariel Sharon in his country’s occupation of Palestinian land and barbarous attacks on the Palestinian people as well as attacking the rights of their own people at home, attempting to criminalise all dissent and stir up racism against those of Muslim faith, an attack on us all.

The feting of George Bush by the British government is a clear message and provocation to the people that the USA and Britain will continue to use military force to impose their will and that of the big corporations on the whole world, in violation of international law and in defiance of public opinion.

Democratic and peace-loving people can only take up this challenge by building an alternative to the Bush-Blair agenda, an alternative opposed to war, upholding the sovereignty of nations and the inalienable rights and dignity of all peoples.

WDIE joins with all in condemning this visit and working for a world in which the rights and sovereignty of all peoples are respected.
